History of Lighthouse
Our past, present and future…
Our journey started with a very humble beginning in 1939, with a need, a concept, and creation of a small infirmary known as Revere General Hospital. From the very beginning, the infirmary was successful and its small size did not limit the hospital’s reach or reputation as they cared for local residents. As time progressed, the early 1960’s presented an opportunity to expand services. The small hospital expanded into a two-story building that stretched an entire city block. In 1963, the newly renovated hospital proudly opened as the new Revere Memorial Hospital. Due to a struggling economy and changes in the landscape of healthcare, the hospital fell on hard times and closed its doors in 1968. In the early 1980’s, hope was restored and the hospital building was purchased by AtlantiCare Hospital (North Shore Hospital). The facility was renamed and redesigned into a three-story nursing facility that commenced operations in August of 1986.
Almost a decade later, a not-for-profit organization affiliated with The Guardian Foundation of Atlanta, GA, purchased the center to continue the legacy of strength in healthcare, caring, and compassion. In April of 1995, Lighthouse of Revere welcomed in the community and continues to provide the genuine level of care that started 75 years ago as a small community infirmary with a caring heart.
In 2014, a $7,000,000 addition and renovation were designed to expand our services to better serve the residents of Revere and surrounding communities. Our expansion goal is to provide our residents and patients with enhanced amenities and accommodations, state-of-the-art rehabilitation center, treatment rooms, three-season porches, and a newly renovated outdoor courtyard and walking path.
